Nutrition

In Skylines Nursery we provide healthy and nutritious meals for our children. This includes breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner as well as two snack times: one in a morning and one on the afternoon. Our lunches and dinners are provided by award-winning catering provider Zebedees. With Zebedees we can provide food that fulfil any medical, food allergies or intolerances, religious or any other food requirements i.e. gluten free, vegan/vegetarian, halal, kosher and any ingredients free options. These options are discussed with parents before child starts their attendance

Baby nutrition

In Skylines Nursery we work in close collaboration with families to ensure babies are provided with the best nutrition both at home and in the nursery. For younger babies who is still exclusively on milk, we stick to their individual feeding schedule. In the nursery we provide formula milk and have all facilities to store and provide breast milk.

We recommend to introduce new foods between 6-9 months old with care taken about potential allergens. In the nursery we will follow your preferred weaning method (traditional puree or baby-led weaning, which involves letting the baby choose which solid foods they want to try from a selection) and pace. We will keep track of what your baby is eating to identify any food allergens or intolerances.

Providing Healthy Habits for Life

The most effective way of promoting healthy habits in Early Years is to take a whole-setting approach, engaging children, staff, parents, carers and the wider community.

In Healthy Early Years settings and at home, children will be supported to:

  • eat a healthy meals and healthy snacks

  • drink plenty of fresh water

  • wheel, walk, scoot, cycle to the setting with their parents/carers

  • wheel, play, run, skip and jump outdoors

  • have plenty of tummy time

  • have plenty of sleep and maintain sleep hygiene

  • learn self-regulation techniques, mindfulness and yoga

  • learn how to brush their teeth and visit the dentist

  • learn about their own feelings and how to express and manage them
